Tripalium 4: The Putrefied Issue. EXTREME RESPONSE

Soon after this interview, Joey (drums) left the band and not wanting to continue under the same moniker, the rest decided to reform Blasphemous Cremation with Alfred of Incarion on drums.(2003)
I have no idea if the band is still active.

The four songs sampler that you gave me sounds clean enough despite the raw production. Will you tell me a bit more about this sampler?
Actually it's an experimental non-linear recording. We only intended it as bands study CD for future song improvements. The recording was done mid of February with the help of Rommel, Eric’s good old friend from Tatay, Rizal. We’ve done the recording of the parts for only more or less 4 hour-session recording day but it took us a lot of effort coz we literally carried a computer, a 4 channel mixer, cables, mics and set it up in a practice studio in Cubao. The mixing took Rommel 3-4 days including bilog and siesta time!

This sampler was not officialy released. Why and what are the reactions like from those few who are lucky enough to have a copy of it?
As we mentioned earlier, its main purpose is for the band’s reference only. But after we heard the final mix, we’ve convinced ourselves to release it soon, together with some of our fellow underground bands. Reactions? Mostly are positive. But we are aware of the fact that it needs a lot of improvement, technically and musically. After some of our friends heard the songs, some like it and some suggested that we have to improve the quality.

You’re currently planning to record a new demo to be officially released. Will you tell me more about this upcoming demo?
JAMIL: We are planning to do a live recording this coming year which includes new songs and we hope it will turn the way we expected and release it as soon it is done.

How does extreme response get started? How long you have been together?
Extreme Response was formed around late 2001 in Cubao Q.C. Members are Jamyl Tenerife on guitar, Aries de Leon Naca on bass, Eric Jose on vocals and Joey Valverde on drums. Jamyl, Aries and Eric use to be in a grind core band called AROMA in 1996 Jamyl is originally from Abadon, a trash speed metal band, Joey is from another band, Wrathskeller. When Joey's group disbanded in 2000, he contacted Jamyl who is by that time collaborating with long time friend Russ dela Cruz and planning to form a trash/funk metal, but the project did not materialize due to unavoidable circumstances. That was the time Jamyl contacted Aries to do the bass line responsibilities and then joined by Eric for vocal works…and finally decided to go back to one of bands roots, grindcore!

How does the crowd normaly respond to the band live? Do you have any fond memories of yor gigs? Any crazy stories?
ARIES: Ayus naman! Some like the songs others didnt like it much maybe because they are not aware of the music we are playing. There’s one time, when police caught me peeing in Espanya and thrown me to jail. That was after we play at Mayrics. ERIC: One time in Katipunan, the crowd was really wild, they actually sing the songs we’re playing. That’s one of the best gigs that we’ve attended.
JOEY: Another is a sad story. It happened when we are scheduled to perform in some bar in Kamuning. When we got there, the person who booked us did not remember inviting us. We couldn’t believe it can really happen. Dami pa naman naming bitbit na gamit. He lined us up as the last performer though, but it’s the complete opposite of what we been agreed before…so we just walked out of the gig and swear never to deal with that guy again.

Now that you have more original materials how do you respond to the request of the crowd to play more covers when you want to play more original songs?
ERIC: We really want to accommodate everyone’s request, but we also want to establish our own music as well.

Where do each member draw their influences?
JOEY: Pinoy Rock, Reggae, Heavy Metal.
ERIC: Death Metal, Grind Core and Sludge.
JAMIL: Trash speed metal
ARIES: Trash, Heavy Metal, Death and Grind Core

What makes extreme response different from the horde of local bands these days?
ARIES: Kami ang dating aroma, we just continuing what we've started before.
JOEY: Siguro, sa originals namen. It’s a combination of different influences, from old to new school metal, but more on the basic side of grindcore.

What do you think of the current local underground scene?
ARIES: The scene before is much better. Walang "kupaw", puro talaga.
JOEY: Sa akin, mas okey ngayon, in terms of recording and distribution of the EP’s. Mas marami nang resources mga banda kaya mas madali na nilang maiparinig ang kanilang musika.

What is the band ultimate goal?
The band’s goal is to contribute something to the underground scene that will make it more interesting, more aggressive, and more metal!

Do any of the band members plays in in another band or has some other project?
JOEY: I'm currently a session drummer in another band.

What do you guys do outside the band?
JAMIL: I'm an aikido sensei and a businessman.
ARIES: A junior architect and construction supervisor.
JOEY: marketing assistant in a record label.
ERIC: ?.

Where do you see the band say in the next two or three years?
More new songs and still the same extreme response, we never last.

Thanx a lot guys for your time and for keeping grind alive. Last words are yours.
SALAMAT sa TRIPALIUM at sa 'yo ROEL, sa pagkakataong ito; sa lahat ng kaibigan; sa mga taong nagheheadbang sa tugtog namin, MABUHAY KAYO!!!
